Produced by King Jammy for Jammy’s, France in 1987, Modern Girl Riddim is a tight three-track showcase with Al Campbell’s Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, Courtney Melody’s Modern Girl, and Robert Ffrench’s Ruff And Tuff. The rhythm is also known as Ain’t Too Proud To Beg Riddim, and Courtney Melody’s title cut later became one of his best-known dancehall links. Robert Ffrench’s France label period was an important step in his run as both singer and producer, and this release captures that late-’80s crossover sound with a clean, hooky feel.
