Produced by King Jammy and Errol Thompson in 1979, Conscience Speaks comes from the late-70s Jammy’s/Errol T period and carries that roots-to-dub crossover feel the pair were shaping at the time. Black Crucials’ original Conscience Speaks is the key cut here, with strong later takes from Leroy Smart’s That Girl, Eccleton Jarrett’s Ready Me Ready, and Pad Anthony’s Any Love, plus Dub – Lover Dub and Errol Thompson and The Terrestials’ That Dub rounding out the set. It’s a compact six-track showcase with one foot in classic vocal reggae and the other in stripped, echo-heavy dub, making it an easy one to place in the early King Jammy catalogue.
