Mammy Riddim – Greensleeves

Ranking Dread cut Mammy Riddim for Greensleeves in 1982, and this short two-track set keeps the focus tight with Ranking All Stars’ Mammy Mammy and Ranking Dread’s My Mammy at the centre. It comes from the early-80s Greensleeves run that also featured a string of Ranking Dread 12-inch singles, and the release is remembered as one of his cleaner, hookier roots-era sides. With just those two voices riding the same rhythm, Mammy has the lean, dubwise feel of an era when Greensleeves was pairing deejay cuts with stripped-back, repeat-ready riddims.
