Originally released in 1970, Soul Rebel Riddim gathers versions cut by Maurice Johnson, Prince Tony Robinson, Lee Scratch Perry, Joe Gibbs, Bunny Striker Lee and others across Black Scorpio, Upsetter, Striker Lee, R. P. P. , Jasfar and Nura. The lineup leans on some of reggae’s deepest names, with Bob Marley and The Wailers’ Soul Rebel at the core, plus Cornell Campbell’s 1976 take and Jacob Miller’s I Am A Natty bringing extra weight to the rhythm. It is a roots-heavy set with a long shelf life, and the way it has been voiced by different producers over time shows how durable the original feel of the riddim really is.
