Passover Riddim (2011) – Jahlight Records

Trinidad’s JahLight Records was already deep into a productive run by the time Passover Riddim landed in September 2011, and this set carries that familiar cool-headed touch they’d been mining on earlier works like New Day and Mount Zion I. The riddim has a calm, slightly stern pulse rather than any flashy attack, which gives Queen Omega’s title cut real room to breathe and lets Fyakin’s “High High” and Matthew Greenidge feat. Rincher’s “Burn To Learn” cut through cleanly. Jah Servant, Dainjamental, Zebulun feat. King Solomon, and Wildlife all add their own angle, but it’s the overall mood that lingers: meditative, roots-conscious, and sharp enough to keep the message front and center. In the JahLight catalogue, it sits comfortably among the label’s more serious-minded productions.
