Own Class Riddim

“Own Class” comes out of that early-2010s dancehall moment where a compact riddim and a tight little vocal lineup do the heavy lifting, and ABRA Records keeps it lean with just four cuts: Pascalle’s “Queen Of The Pack, ” Heidi D’s “Remember, ” Red Rat’s “Somebody, ” and Jusa’s title track. Red Rat gives the project its easiest hook, but the appeal here is the way each singer rides the same pattern differently, with Pascalle leaning into a poised, competitive stance and Jusa using the title song to frame the whole thing with a bit more attitude. It’s a short set, no filler, and the production stays focused on a stripped-back dancehall pulse that leaves the vocals plenty of room, which is exactly why the 2012 issue feels so direct.
