Moskato Riddim – Birchill Records

Moskato Riddim is a Birchill Records dancehall juggling from 2016, with Christopher Birch at the helm and the usual Birchill snap in the production: a bright, springy rhythm built for movement, with a rolling bass line and enough space in the arrangement for the voices to cut through cleanly.

The set pulls together Vershon, Konshens, Tifa, Charly Black, Voicemail, D Major and Road Elf, with Birchill closing things out on the instrumental. Konshens anchors the release with two versions of “Bruk Off Mi Cock” and “Bruk Off Yuh Back, ” the kind of cheeky, waistline-driven dancehall that made him one of the genre’s most bankable names in the 2010s. Vershon’s “Barbie Doll” brings a younger Kingston energy, while Tifa’s “Big Bumper” slips comfortably into her long-running lane of bold, commanding dancehall talk. Charly Black’s “Hoist and Wine” is pure party fuel, and Voicemail’s “Waist A Move” keeps the temperature up with group vocals and call-and-response energy.

What gives Moskato Riddim its appeal is the way the tracklist plays like a sound-system set rather than a loose collection of singles. D Major’s “Nicest Squeeze” and Road Elf’s “Jokkie Jam” round out the package with more celebratory, body-moving cuts, and the instrumental lets the riddim’s bounce speak for itself. It is a straightforward dancehall release, but a well-assembled one, with Birchill leaning into the kind of rhythm that could move in parties, on radio, and in juggling sessions without losing its shape.
