Mobay Youths Riddim – Navy Records

Mobay Youths comes in lean and street-level, with six cuts from seven artists riding a 2019 dancehall framework that feels aimed squarely at the local pass-the-dat energy rather than anything polished or glossy. Instantley’s “My Side” and Real Medz’s “The Goat” set the tone early, while Ingenious and Fame Ski keep the hunger up on “Braffing” and “Mak It Work, ” titles that pretty much tell you the mood already. The one real team-up here is Germie Heartless with Vincie Scheemaz on “Money and Gyal, ” which adds a sharper back-and-forth to the sequence. Navy Records keeps the roll tight and no-frills, and the closer, Astro Don’s “Fortune, ” leaves the riddim on an upward, get-up-and-go note.
