Birchill Records’ Military Riddim Local Session trims the wider Military project down to a more focused 10-cut set, and that smaller frame gives the whole thing a tighter, more regional feel. Christopher Birch’s production leans on the same martial idea that defined the bigger Military riddim: stern, march-like drum programming, clipped snares, and those synthetic horn lines that push it along like a parade in motion. The local session line-up keeps the emphasis on French Caribbean voices, with Daddy Mory, Guyal Mc, Kali P, and Straika D among the names carrying the hardest cuts. “Gunshot Sur Babylon” and “We Don’t Need Dem” fit the mood best, riding the riddim with direct, no-frills phrasing. It’s a mid-tempo dancehall build, but the brass melody and snapping percussion keep it moving with an unmistakably disciplined pulse.
