MAGNUM RIDDIM produced by STEELY AND CLEVIE 1989
Magnum Overview
In the late 1980s, reggae music was changing. New rhythms and digital sounds were taking over the dancehall scene. During this time, the production team Steely & Clevie became famous for their fresh style. Steely & Clevie, made up of Wycliffe "Steely" Johnson and Cleveland "Clevie" Browne, were known for their work at Studio One and for creating many classic dancehall rhythms. Their influence is still felt today, with their music streamed worldwide and sampled by many artists. One of their projects brought together top reggae and dancehall artists. Anthony Red Rose recorded “Sound Boy,” showing his unique voice. He is well known for his hit “Tempo,” which became a dancehall classic. Beenie Man performed “Miss Ooman.” Beenie Man is one of Jamaica’s most successful artists, winning a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2001. Chevell Franklyn sang “No One In The World.” She is also recognized for her gospel music and her duet “Dancehall Queen” with Beenie Man. Clement Iirie’s track is “Loving.” He is known for his energetic delivery in the dancehall scene. John Mouse brought “Me A Me” to the project, adding his own style. These songs, along with others from the same rhythm, are still played at reggae events today. The classic sound of Steely & Clevie continues to inspire new generations.
