Kamera Trick Riddim – Equiknoxx Music

Equiknoxx were still in that earlier, more straight-ahead dancehall mode here, and Kamera Trick Riddim feels more like a sharp selector’s tool than one of their later, more experimental excursions. The cut rides a lean, rubbery groove with enough space for the voices to jab through it, which is exactly why Beenie Man’s “Whoiiii, ” Chris Martin’s “Dem Love Me, ” and RDX’s “Shortwood Road” hit so cleanly alongside Denyque and Versatile. There’s a nice contrast in the way the rhythm keeps things clipped and nimble while the singers stretch out their hooks, and the whole set lands in quick, concentrated form rather than sprawling out. Released in January 2010, the project runs ten tracks long and keeps the focus on song-after-song pressure rather than filler.
