Chimney Records gave Island Vibes Riddim a bright, clean 2011 dancehall setting that sits right in the label’s polished, radio-ready lane. The Kingston imprint, run by Jordan McClure and David Hayle, had already built a name for crisp arrangements and heavyweight bass, and this project fits neatly into that catalog of slick juggling releases.
The riddim moves with a breezy, tropical swing rather than a hard-edged bashment stomp. It leaves plenty of room for melody, and that is exactly why the voice cuts land. Bugle’s I Don’t Worry comes in twice, clean and raw, and his calm, conscience-minded delivery gives the set a steady center. I-Octane’s Once More pushes a smoother singjay tone, while Konshens brings sharper street energy on Represent. Serani’s Don’t Call The Cops adds a pop-sheen hook, and Tarrus Riley’s Never Leave I gives the rhythm its most roots-leaning moment, with his warm, soulful phrasing lifting the whole mood.
Kibaki’s Jah Children Beware and Stein’s Fall In Love keep the project moving, and Khago’s Energy adds extra edge. The instrumental version closes the set off with enough space to hear the bounce and bass architecture clearly. Released in January 2011, Island Vibes works because it balances easy island gloss with voices that each find a different pocket inside the same rhythm.
