Hot Sun Riddim – Amilli Records

A St. Kitts summer cut from 2018, Hot Sun Riddim catches Amilli Records in launch mode, pushing out a compact six-song dancehall set that feels rooted in the island’s own scene. The title track may be the instrumental’s original spark, but Byron Messia’s “Shue Fly” and Maestro Don’s “New Day” give the riddim its clearest pull, with the latter also turning up in a raw version for extra bite. The producer side matters here too: Amilli was presenting this as its first proper summer project, and the beat itself had been sitting around since 2014 before Jahvid “De Magician” Percival’s work finally got a wider release. Trebla’s “Summer Time” closes the loop neatly, almost like the tune the whole set grew out of.
