Hard Wok Riddim comes in heavy and no-nonsense, with Ghetto Slang Ent lining up 14 cuts across 13 voices and keeping the energy locked in hard dancehall territory. The set moves from Luhlahlay’s raw opener “Wok Mi Come Fi Wok” into hustler talk from Curly Cash, sharp talk from Abajonai Kushites, and the rugged runouts of Nappa Tappa, Tuffest and Powerman, so the project keeps that street-side pressure on the whole way through. There’s a bit of room for contrast too, with Flourgan’s “Love Nuki” and Singer Irie’s “My Girl” easing the tension before the tougher chants snap back in. But the record really lands on Menny More’s “Trimble Like Leaf, ” a clipped, aggressive closer that leaves the riddim sounding mean and fully in its element.
