GREENSLEEVES RECORDS brought a strong bashment flow to dancehall with the Godfather Riddim in 1999. The label is known for releasing some of the biggest reggae and dancehall riddims, and has worked with many top Jamaican artists over the years. GREENSLEEVES RECORDS started in the UK in the 1970s and helped bring reggae to global audiences. Their catalog includes classics like the Diwali Riddim and the work of artists such as Yellowman and Barrington Levy. On the Godfather Riddim, Chico stands out with “Pavarotti,” a track that shows his lyrical style. Mr Vegas brings energy to the tape with “Bed Position.” Mr Vegas is well known for his hit song “Heads High,” which reached the UK Singles Chart in 1998 and became a dancehall anthem. Sean Paul’s “Safe Sex” is another highlight. Sean Paul later found international fame with his album “Dutty Rock,” which won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004. TOK rounds out the session with “Gra It Up,” adding their signature harmonies and group energy. Selectors in Jamaica used this yard session tape in their sets throughout 1999.
