Dark and gritty. DJ Tamuka Productions’ Godfather Riddim moves with that clipped zimdancehall swagger, giving Terminator’s “Righteousness” and Munaz’s “Haichemerwe” a sharp, street-level edge while Dobba Don leans into the tougher side of the rhythm on “Man A Badman” and “Msoro We Huku. ” The whole thing has that taut, militant pulse that suits Zimbabwe’s dancehall sound so well, and DJ Taz (Shefu)’s mixtape stitch-up ties it together like a proper local session rather than a loose compilation. There’s a little extra bite in the title too, with the Godfather name hanging over the project as more than just a theme. Released in 2016, it’s a compact set, six tracks all told, with no wasted motion.
