Fornication Riddim – Hitmaker Muzik

Hitmaker Muzik’s Fornication Riddim arrived in 2016 as a dancehall juggling aimed squarely at adult double-entendre, with the title alone setting the tone. The set landed on September 30, 2016 and was issued through Hitmaker Muzik with digital distribution by 21st Hapilos. It runs 13 tracks and closes with the instrumental, which gives the release a proper riddim-package feel rather than just a loose compilation.

The sound is brisk and percussive, built for the dance with a cheeky, bedroom-minded bounce that leaves room for patter, melody and outright one-liners. The production works best when the vocals play off the rhythm’s spare, suggestive groove instead of crowding it. General Degree’s “Better Than You” brings veteran dancehall timing and slick talk, while D Major’s “O. P. (Operation Pleasure)” sets the tone early with a more playful spin on the concept. Spice’s “Philosophy” is the sharpest name on the billing, and her delivery naturally locks into a riddim built for sly confidence. Macka Diamond’s “25 Inches” pushes the same adult humor further, and Vershon’s “Vice Grip” adds a younger, more modern-flavoured cut to the set. Jah Real’s “Nature Call” and Kalado’s “Adultry” with J Capri round out the project with the kind of suggestive, radio-versus-dancehall split that often drives these releases.

The tracklist also includes Hitmaker’s own “Fornicate” in raw and clean versions, a sign that this was pitched as a full-circulation dancehall release. The version has enough bounce and attitude to hold together across the different voices, and the mix of veteran names with newer acts gives it real scene weight.
