Frass House Riddim – Jjevafrass Productions

Junior “JJ Evafrass” Stewart stepped into riddim production with Frass House, a 2014 dancehall project released through Jjevafrass Productions, the same channel that had already built a strong online following before moving deeper into music. The name fits the attitude of the set: rude, street-ready, and built for the kind of juggling that can carry a dance through one cut after another.

The riddim sits in that mid-2010s dancehall pocket where militant drum programming, sharp synth lines, and a bouncing, electronic pulse do most of the work. The tempo sits around the easy, head-nodding zone rather than full sprint, which gives the singers and deejays enough room to play with melody, flow, and attitude. Alkaline’s “In The World” gives the project one of its strongest moments, pairing his cold, focused delivery with a song that sounds bigger than a simple one-drop exercise. Khago is all over the set and gives it some of its roughest energy, especially on “Frass Too Much, ” “Frass Yuh Fuck, ” and the collaboration “Live Mi Life” with Vigilant. Navino’s “Care Zero, ” Melloquence’s “Request, ” and Roundhead’s “Big Spliff” deepen the lineup, while Versatile’s “Whine It” pushes the riddim toward dancefloor business. It is a debut producer statement that moves with enough bite and variety to hold its own in the 2014 dancehall catalogue.
