First Birth Overview
The First Birth Riddim compilation arrived in 2017, adding a strong voice to the year’s reggae releases. Produced by R and L MUSIC, this project showcased the classic one drop rhythm, known for its deep, conscious sound. R and L MUSIC is a Jamaican label with a growing reputation for producing roots reggae riddims that connect with both new and classic reggae fans. Four artists brought their own style to the compilation. Delroy Melody, known for his roots reggae work since the late 1970s, delivered “Beat Dung Di Fence.” Delroy Melody is best known for his hit “Ease Up the Pressure,” a classic in reggae circles. Anthony B contributed “No Fall.” Anthony B is a respected figure in modern reggae, famous for his energetic performances and songs like “Raid the Barn.” With “No Fall,” he continued his tradition of conscious lyrics. Freedom performed the song “Freedom,” adding a smooth and thoughtful voice to the project. Perfect, who gained international attention with his 2006 hit “Hand Cart Bwoy,” performed “Guidy Morning,” bringing his unique style to the riddim. The dub engineer’s work on this compilation gave each track a warm, vinyl-like feel, with horn riffs and deep bass lines that tied everything together. The production quality made the riddim stand out among 2017 releases. First Birth Riddim remains a strong example of reggae’s lasting power in 2017, with each artist and the producer adding their own touch to a timeless sound.
