Stockroom Productionz’s Side Piece Riddim landed in May 2017 as a tight five-track soca set, and it has that lean, quick-stepping feel you’d expect from a midyear Carnival season cut. Booboo’s “Fya Water” and Nicki D Diva’s “Gimmie” sit right in the pocket of the riddim, while Skarpyon’s “Stay Home Wine” nudges it toward the wine-up side of the dance; Stamina Smurf’s “Happiness” keeps the energy bright, and the producer’s own instrumental closes it out neatly. The whole thing runs just 17 minutes, which makes it feel more like a sharp burst than a long-form compilation, with the title itself doing a bit of cheeky storytelling along the way.
