Firehouse Productions keeps Re-Birth Riddim in a roots-conscious pocket, but the cut has enough lift to move like a modern juggling. The release landed in 2013 as a five-song EP, and the title points back to the familiar idea of a classic reggae pulse being reborn in a fresh setting. The production comes from the Brooklyn-based Firehouse camp, a name tied to a long-running Caribbean music operation that has worked across dub, reggae and related sounds.
Chronixx’s “Dread” is the obvious anchor. His early rise was built on that kind of militant, melodic new-roots writing, and here he rides the riddim with a sharp, unforced vocal that gives the whole set a younger edge. Lutan Fyah’s “Pressure” pushes the conscious side harder, with the singer’s trademark serrated delivery turning the song into a stress-and-survival chant that suits the tune’s title. Spectacular’s “Ease The Pressure” answers from a similar angle, but with a lighter, more sing-jay glide that softens the mood without losing the message.
Jahbari I’s “I Just Be Me” and Jerimus’ “Mr Want It All” fill out the juggling with contrast: one more self-affirming and restrained, the other more direct and worldly. Together the voices give the riddim a useful spread, from roots meditation to social commentary, while the production stays clean, spacious and patient enough to let each singer breathe.
