Raw Cut Riddim – Chimney Records

Chimney Records was already one of the sharper young production outfits in dancehall by the time Raw Cut Riddim landed in 2013, with David Hayle and Jordan McClure steering the label’s polished, modern sound. The riddim sits in that hard, radio-friendly pocket Chimney helped popularize: stripped-down but punchy, with a clean digital bounce and enough grit to keep it rooted in the dance.

The lineup reads like a cross-section of the era’s front line. 3 Star and Chase Cross open with Soul Survivor, setting a no-nonsense tone before Aidonia comes in twice on Never Never, in both radio and raw form, with his sharp-edged delivery giving the cut extra bite. Assassin, now widely known as Agent Sasco, also lands in both versions of Start War, and his precise, taunting style fits the riddim’s tense energy perfectly. Chris Martin’s Gi Yuh Joke brings a smoother melodic contrast, while Elephant Man’s Wine Fi Di Summer pushes the project toward party mode with his usual kinetic flair. Konshens gets two versions of Anyweh, one pitched at the gun tune crowd and one for the dance, which makes him one of the key voices here. Leftside’s We Don’t Care and Mavado’s Bruk Out keep the momentum moving with street-level swagger.

What makes Raw Cut Riddim memorable is the balance between aggression and crowd appeal. It is tough enough for clash-minded deejays, but slick enough to travel beyond the dancehall core.
