Fiesta Overview
In 2003, the dancehall scene was full of energy and new ideas. The Fiesta Riddim stood out, bringing a fresh bashment flow that blended hardcore deejay styles with smooth vocals. The riddim was created by Dave Kelly, a celebrated Jamaican producer known for shaping the sound of modern dancehall. Kelly’s work with MADHOUSE RECORDS had already made waves, thanks to hits and a reputation for quality production. MADHOUSE, founded in the early 1990s, became a home for some of the genre’s biggest records and artists, helping to push dancehall into the international spotlight. The journey of this compilation began in the studio, where the riddim’s lively beat inspired artists to bring their best. Thing Ft Beenie Man delivered the memorable track “Dude,” a song that quickly became a dancehall anthem. Beenie Man also shined solo with his own version, “Dude.” Baby Cham added his unique voice to “Vitamin S,” a track that captured the playful side of the riddim. Lady Saw’s “Man Is The Least” brought a powerful female perspective, while Elephant Man’s “Bad Man” kept the energy high. Other highlights included Thing’s “Regualr,” Beenie Man & J’s “Dick,” and Tanto Metro & Devonte’s “All Night.” Cobra’s “Badness Nuh Wear Pon Face” and Akon’s “Gunshot” showcased the riddim’s versatility, blending strong lyrics with irresistible grooves. From creation to release, the Fiesta Riddim compilation captured the spirit of early 2000s dancehall. Its bashment flow remains an important part of the genre’s history, still inspiring both fans and artists today.
