DETERGENT RIDDIM / SOAP RIDDIM / GUN TALK RIDDIM produced by DIGITAL B 1991
Detergent Overview
In 1991, a new bashment release began its journey in the busy studios of Kingston, Jamaica. The track builder behind this project created a riddim with hard-hitting drums, catchy melodies, and a groove that pulled in both deejays and singers. The energy of the riddim was clear from the start, and it quickly caught the attention of top artists. The producer, DIGITAL B, played a key role in shaping the sound. DIGITAL B, led by Bobby “Digital” Dixon, was known for pushing dancehall forward in the late ‘80s and ‘90s. The label became famous for clean, digital productions and worked with many big names in reggae and dancehall. For this release, DIGITAL B brought together a strong lineup of performers. Chaka Demus delivered “Chaka Hits,” showing off his rough vocal style that would later help him score international hits like “Tease Me” with Pliers. Dirtsman, best known for his classic “Hot This Year,” gave the riddim real attitude with “Boasey.” Johhny P added his unique flavor on “Winery,” while Junior Demus fired up the dance with “Under Mi Gun.” Lady P’s “Gun Talk” brought a female voice to the mix, adding balance and variety. The set was rounded out by “Long John” from Unknown, keeping the bashment vibe strong. Selectors loved the blend of tough deejay cuts and smooth vocals. Even years later, this 1991 release is still a favorite for dancehall fans and DJs, proving the lasting power of a well-built riddim and the talent of DIGITAL B’s crew.
