Danger Mouse Riddim – Guerilljah Productions

A dusty, heavy digi rhythm drives this one, with the kick and bass doing the kind of patient, mechanical work that leaves room for the vocals to cut through. Danger Mouse Riddim came out of Berlin’s GuerillJah Productions in 2018, with Hardy Digital handling the title cut and the production shared with Longfingah; the same duo has been working together since 2009, and you can hear that long partnership in the way the riddim is kept lean and pressure-filled rather than overcooked. Longfingah and Tonto Addi’s “Raggamuffin Authority” is the sharpest vocal turn here, all rough-edged confidence, while Peter Schlacks’ “Frische Luft” pulls a slightly lighter, more melodic line across the same framework. The instrumental version at the end locks the whole thing in place, and the release sits neatly alongside GuerillJah’s bass-heavy, soundsystem-minded catalogue.
