DANCEHALL AGAIN RIDDIM produced by DASECA PRODUCTIONS 2010
Daseca’s Dancehall Again Riddim arrived in 2010 with a straight-back-to-basics approach that felt like a nod to the late-’80s dancehall era without sounding dusty. The production team behind it was Daseca, the Kingston outfit formed by Craig Serani Marsh and the Harrisingh brothers, David and Craig, a camp that had already built a reputation for sharp, radio-ready dancehall and reggae work. The riddim sits in their catalogue as one of the more openly nostalgic projects, and it was heard at the time as a throwback with intent rather than a novelty exercise.
The rhythm itself is tense and stripped down, with a clipped digital swing, heavy bass movement and enough open space for deejays to cut through cleanly. It has the feel of a modern reworking of classic dancehall architecture, the kind that recalls the era of Dave Kelly-style minimalism and old-school riding patterns. That sound gave the track room to breathe, and the version was strong enough to stand on its own as a reference point.
The voice cuts sharpen the concept. Agent Sasco’s “Dancehall Again” is the clearest statement on the riddim, a direct defence of original dancehall values. Beenie Man’s “Tell A Gal” brings veteran charisma and sly crowd control, while Future Fambo’s “From When” adds the kind of rough-edged energy that suits the throwback mood. Elephant Man, Mr. Vegas, Bugle, Aidonia and Fire Links all add different shades of swagger, while cuts from Galaxy P and Kibaki help fill out a juggling built for sound systems rather than playlists.
