DA GROOVE RIDDIM produced by JAMDOWN CREW 1999
Da Groove Overview
In 1999, some of dancehall’s most energetic voices came together on the Da Groove Riddim. The lineup included Elephant Man, known for his hit “Pon De River, Pon De Bank,” and Frisco Kid, who gained attention with songs like “Rubbers.” Hawkeye, Kiprich, and Kirk Davis also joined the project, each bringing their own style. Kiprich would later become famous for his witty lyrics and clash songs, while Kirk Davis is recognized for his soulful reggae vocals. On this riddim, Elephant Man delivered “Love Fi Bow Down,” bringing his signature energy. Frisco Kid’s “Run For It” added a quick-fire flow. Hawkeye’s “Tek A Rest” offered a different vibe, and Kiprich’s “Strength Fi All Women” stood out for its positive message. Kirk Davis contributed “You Sing To Me,” showing his smooth voice. The riddim was produced by JAMDOWN CREW, a team known for their work in the late 1990s dancehall scene. JAMDOWN CREW released music on their own Jamdown Records label, which played a big role in pushing dancehall internationally. Their productions often became favorites at street dances and were picked up by selectors looking for fresh sounds. In 1999, the selector’s choice from Da Groove Riddim hit hard at bashment events, making it a favorite for dancers and DJs alike. The mix of artists and the strong production helped the riddim stay popular in dancehall circles.
