Brainwashing Riddim – Brain Doctor Productions

Back in 2015, when conscious reggae riddims were still leaning hard on message tunes and roots pressure, Brainwashing Riddim came through with a lean nine-track set from Brain Doctor Productions. The cuts keep the mood direct and uncluttered: Lisa Dainjah’s title tune, U-Brown’s talker “Dash It Select, ” Mikeylous on “Free Up the Herbs, ” and Chezidek’s “Rise Up” all push that easy skank with lyrics aimed at control, uplift, and resistance. Little Hero’s “God a God” and Power Man’s “Traitor Dem” add a sharper edge, while Jigsy King’s “General” keeps the energy firm in classic dancehall style. The instrumental closer, “Braindoctor – Version, ” rounds it out cleanly and lets the riddim itself carry the last word.
