Boops Riddim (2010) – Bluheat Music

Boops Riddim came out in 2010 on Bluheat Music, but the musical DNA points straight to Shane Brown and his Juke Boxx camp, the same corner of Kingston that kept turning out sharp, radio-ready riddims at the time. This one sits closer to contemporary reggae than raw dancehall: brisk, bright, and built on a springy groove that leaves plenty of room for melody while still giving deejays space to cut through with patter.

The version list is a strong snapshot of the era’s crossover pull. Assassin, now better known as Agent Sasco, anchors it with “History Book” and “Nowadays Boopsie, ” bringing his clipped, precise delivery and social commentary. Busy Signal does the heavy lifting with three cuts, including “Dat Me Love, ” “Dem Nuh Care, ” and “Government Gone Luuuuu, ” shifting easily between cheeky dancehall talk and sharper everyday observation. Elephant Man adds a lighter, more animated touch on “Whine, ” while Konshens brings fashion-conscious swagger on “Fashion Attack. ”

The roots side of the project is handled by Lutan Fyah, Romain Virgo, and Tarrus Riley. Lutan Fyah’s “You Looking Hot” adds a warmer, more conscious vocal texture, Romain Virgo’s “Live Mi Life” brings a smooth lovers-rock sensibility, and Tarrus Riley’s “Children A Pree We” lands with the most reflective tone on the set. That balance is what makes Boops Riddim work: it moves easily between dancehall energy and roots-minded songwriting without losing its bounce.
