Compassion Riddim (2010) – Troyton Music

Compassion Riddim came out in 2010 under Troyton Music, the production banner of Jamaican producer Troy Hinds. The riddim sits in that early-2010 wave of polished reggae-rooted juggling projects that paired heavier street voices with more reflective singers, and it arrived with “I Know U Want Me” by Mavado as the biggest pull on the set.

The sound is smooth but not soft: a clean mid-tempo groove with a patient forward roll, warm bass weight, and a glossy finish that leaves room for melody. It has the kind of emotional frame suggested by the title, with the whole rhythm sitting in a space between pleading and resolve. “I Cry” by I-Octane gives it its clearest conscience-driven edge, drawing on the singer’s trademark mix of melody and social reflection. Dreama’s “Pave The Way” adds a more uplifting, forward-looking tone, while G’s “Shoulder To Cry On” and T Nez’s “Me She Love” keep the theme centered on hurt, comfort, and relationship tension. The version closes things out in the usual way, letting the rhythm breathe on its own.

Mavado is the name that gives the project its widest reach. By 2010 he was already one of dancehall’s most recognisable voices, known for balancing hard-edged delivery with melodic hooks, and “I Know U Want Me” sits neatly in that lane.
