Blood Diamond Riddim comes off like a mid-2000s roots set with a militant edge, the sort of riddim that leaves room for conscious lyrics without softening the groove. The cuts keep circling around uplift and survival: Marlon Asher’s “They Say” and Zebulun feat. Junior B’s “Seek Jah First” carry the strongest spiritual pull, while Pilot’s “Educate The Youths” and Prince Of Judah’s “I Am Bless” keep the focus on message music rather than niceties. Diamond Cut, Honey Comb and Gounz Man feat. Lightning and J add a bit of variety, but the project stays tight and purposeful throughout. It closes with the “Blood Diamond” version, which gives the rhythm section the last word and leaves the chant-heavy selections hanging in the air.
