BLACKOUT RIDDIM produced by VIBES HOUSE 1997
Blackout Overview
When the Blackout Riddim dropped in 1997, dancehall fans responded with real excitement. Selectors played this riddim at street dances across Jamaica, and the energy in the crowd was always high. The raw sound and heavy groove made it a favorite for partygoers and DJs alike. Artists brought their own style to the riddim. Thomas & S.Marsden opened things up with “Blackout,” a tune that set the pace for the whole release. Alley Cat delivered “S.E.X,” showing the playful side of dancehall. Beenie Man, known for his international hit “Who Am I (Sim Simma),” gave fans “Nobody Knows,” adding his unmistakable voice and flow. Buju Banton, who won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2011, contributed “Loving Is A Thing,” bringing his deep, conscious lyrics to the project. Delly Ranks came through with “Borrow Man,” keeping the dancefloor moving. Other standout tracks included Devonte’s “Ain’t Nobody,” General B’s “A You,” Power Man’s “Next,” Tanto Metro’s “Position & Pose,” and World A Girls with “When You See.” Each song brought a fresh take to the riddim. The Blackout Riddim was produced by VIBES HOUSE, a label and production team that helped shape the sound of late-90s dancehall. VIBES HOUSE is known for working with top artists and creating riddims that still get played today. Their influence on dancehall is clear, and Blackout remains a classic from that era.
