Barriers Riddim lines up a dozen cuts and keeps the focus on conscious roots voices, with Perfect Giddimani, Lutan Fyah, Skarra Mucci and Ras Attitude among the names carrying the weight. Giddimani Records gave the 2013 set a steady, mid-tempo reggae pulse that leaves room for the message to breathe, and the stronger moments come when the singers lean into uplift and resistance, whether it’s Fyakin on “Herbs, ” Lutan Fyah’s “Foundation, ” or Skarra Mucci’s more defiant turn on “What We Gonna Do. ” The sequence also folds in Cynthia, Damas, Robbie Rule and Jami Dread, plus a clean instrumental version of the riddim itself, which helps anchor the project’s shape. It runs 12 tracks in all, with the title cut tucked in at number four under Giddimani Music.
