By 2013, reggae one-riddim projects were still leaning hard into message songs and easygoing lovers cuts, and Reggaeland’s High On Love Riddim fits that moment with a mellow, rootsy feel rather than anything too flashy. Anthony Que opens things with “Rastaman House, ” while Droop Lion’s “Poor People Are Suffering” keeps the pressure on the social side. The real twist is how the release keeps circling back to the same songs in different forms: Prince Jahved’s “I Often Wonder” gets dancehall, hip hop, and reggae treatments, and Singer Jah’s “Help 4 Di Youths” follows the same route. Roberto Sanchez’s “Mother Of My Child” adds a sweeter, more personal touch, and the project also lines up Sr. Wilson with Rapsusklei on “Children No Cry, ” which gives the riddim a wider, cross-Atlantic feel. Reggaeland put it out in March 2013, right as the one-riddim season was in full swing.
