Lewin Brown, born 9 May 1968 in Windsor Forest, Portland, Jamaica, is a reggae and dancehall musician. He gave himself the stage name Louis Culture after his mentor, Bobby Culture. He has also been known as “Mr.Gangalee” by his fans all over the world. Gangalee is a term used generally within the Jamaican community for an individual who is unruly and has wild behavior. Louie, however, chose to look at it as a person who is firm, immovable regarding his beliefs, and is ready to stand on his own as long as God remains on their side. ‘Rat A Bother Me’ was his very first recording in 1986 with Waynie Ranking which failed dismally. Many of his other singles that followed, he did with Positive didn’t make it either.  Only when DJ Terror Fabulous met Louie and introduced him to Mad House crew was when the tide changed and his career began. 1994 turned out to be a great year for Louie as he performed a great set for the first time at Reggae Sunsplash and released a number of singles as well as an album titled ‘Gangalee’ which was produced by VP Music Group. One of the singles he did was with Wayne Wonder titled ‘Live and Learn,’ on the Pepperseed rhythm was ‘No Gal,’ then other titles included ‘Bogus Badge,’ ‘Excellent’, and ‘Revolution Song.’ In the early 2000s, Louie gained popularity with songs like ‘Grap Your Lass and Come,’ and ‘Scandalina.’ The Uprising became his 2nd album which was received well in 2004. Louis toured massively with Freddy McGregor after the release of this album right through to 2009. His international performances placed him on a level that made his career to blossom. Gangalee Music was his own record label established in 2009. His 3rd album released the same year under his own label had great songs like ‘Prayer For Jamaica.’ Louis has worked tirelessly over the years and many compilations have arisen.  His 4th and 5th albums titled Grabber and Cyaah Dead were released in 2018 and 2020 by Builders Music Company and Axx Records, respectively. This is proof that the artist has remained relevant over 3 decades and his music still continues living on.
