Galaxy P is a veteran Jamaican dancehall deejay and singer known
for a sharp, energetic style that helped define his place in the
1990s dancehall scene. Born Peter Jackson in Macca Tree, St
Catherine, he came up in music through church singing before moving
into recording under the guidance of Colin Roach. His early
breakthrough came with “Miss Goodie Goodie,” a track that brought
him wider recognition at home and helped establish the name Galaxy
P in Jamaican music. Over the years, he built a reputation for
lively performances, streetwise lyrics, and a voice that sat
comfortably across tough dancehall rhythms and more melodic
hooks.
Much of Galaxy P’s appeal has come from the way he has stayed
active across different eras of the genre. His catalogue includes
songs such as “Tickle Her Fancy,” “Vex If You Vex,” “Dem Bawling
Out,” and “Not Me,” and he has remained a familiar presence on
sound system culture, club stages, and riddim projects. He has also
worked with a range of producers and collaborators, which has kept
his music connected to both classic dancehall traditions and newer
releases. In 2021, he revisited his roots with The Boy From Macca
3, a project that reflected on his upbringing and long career while
showing that he was still very much engaged with the music.
Galaxy P has often balanced party music with songs that touch on
social themes and personal reflection, giving his work more range
than a simple hitmaker profile might suggest. He has continued
recording into recent years, and his name still appears on current
dancehall and reggae releases, including the kind of various-artist
riddim projects that remain central to the genre. For listeners who
know him from his classic 1990s output, or from later work that
looks back on his beginnings, Galaxy P remains one of Jamaica’s
durable voices in dancehall.
