Chico Biography & Music Discography

Riddimz Kalacta X King Dem - Dancehall History 2025 Freestyle

Chico is a Jamaican dancehall singjay best known for his smooth delivery, female-focused lyrics, and a catalogue that helped define the genre’s late-1990s and early-2000s sound. Born Patrick Walker in Jamaica, he came up in Kingston and first found his footing in the music business through King Jammy’s studio, where he recorded a cover of Tevin Campbell’s “Why Oh Why” in 1993. From there, he moved through the city’s key dancehall spaces and built a reputation as an artist who could glide between melodic hooks and sharper streetwise talk without losing his relaxed style.
His early breakthrough came with “Stamina Body,” a record that brought him wider attention and opened the door to more prominent production work. He went on to make his mark with songs such as “Naah Stoop,” “Yuh No Care,” “Enemy,” and “Yuh Have Your Own,” while also becoming a familiar voice on major riddims from producers including Dave Kelly, Donovan Germain, Jeremy Harding, and others. That run established Chico as one of the more recognisable voices in his lane: less aggressive than some of his peers, but still firmly rooted in the dancehall pulse.
Over the years, Chico’s name has stayed in circulation through a mix of solo cuts and collaborations. He linked with Sean Paul on “Ganja Breed” for Dutty Rock, and later reached a wider international audience with “Hey Sexy Wow,” recorded with Lord Kossity. His catalog also includes catchy, club-ready tunes like “So Fly,” “Chemistry,” and “No Change,” which reflect the easy singjay flow that has long been part of his appeal. More recently, he has continued recording and performing as Chico Dancehall, keeping his sound current while still drawing on the style that made his name.
For listeners who grew up with 1990s dancehall, Chico remains one of those voices that instantly places you in a particular era: melodic, confident, and built for sound system play. His career has endured because he understood early how to balance songwriting, performance, and a strong sense of character, and that combination still shapes how his music is remembered.
