Answer Riddim (2002) – Blacker Dread

By 2002, dancehall was leaning hard into lean, sharp-edged riddims with room for a few voices to cut through, and Blacker Dread’s Answer rhythm fits that moment nicely: just five cuts, no wasted movement, and a lineup that pairs Bling Dawg’s “Super Gun” with Cobra’s “Dig It Up, ” Junior Reid’s “Sign And Wonders, ” and Pinchers on “Easy Does It. ” The rhythm itself has that taut, stripped-down early-2000s feel, more clipped than flashy, which leaves the artists’ delivery doing the heavy lifting, especially Junior Reid’s more reflective turn against the harder deejay energy around him.
