Spotlight Riddim (2002) – Hot Tracks

Hot Tracks frames Spotlight Riddim as a tight 2002 dancehall set, and the small cast gives it a sharper edge than a lot of bigger juggling projects from the era. The lineup is lean but pointed: Norris Man, Sizzla, and Steve Machete each cut through the same rhythm with a different kind of pressure, while the version listing on Riddim-ID also shows cuts from Harry Toddler and Determine tied to the same Hot Tracks production, which suggests this riddim had a little more studio life than the three-track note implies. Still, the ear keeps drifting back to Sizzla’s “She Have The Whole A It, ” the kind of raw, declarative tune that locks onto a riddim and leaves its mark.
