40/40 Productions was already deep into its run by the time Ahalaxia Riddim arrived in 2004, and this one sits neatly in the label’s early-2000s dancehall stretch from Lenky’s camp in Jamaica. The cut rolls through nine tracks with a punchy, rallying feel, the kind of raw dancehall energy that lets voices like Capleton on “I Love Dancehall, ” Baby Cham on “Grounds Man, ” and Elephant Man on “Give Her It Good” push hard against the rhythm rather than float over it. Admiral T turns up twice, first on “Gwadada” and again with Little Espion on “Love, ” which gives the set a nice extra edge, while the last run through “Bun” keeps the temperature high right up to the instrumental finale, “Ahalaxia Reloaded, ” where the riddim itself gets the final word.
