Eye Charm Riddim – 40/40 Productions

With only seven cuts, Eye Charm Riddim keeps the focus tight and lets the lineup do the talking: Degree, Chico, Assassin, Elephant Man, Zumjay and Lenky all get a run over 40/40 Productions’ 2006 juggling, and the set has that sharp mid-2000s dancehall snap rather than anything too busy. Chico’s “Do This Right” and Elephant Man’s “Wine Yu Body Gyal” are the obvious crowd-movers here, while Assassin turns in a cooler, more clipped “Work Fi What Yu Want” that plays against the rhythm’s bounce. Zumjay’s “Girl It’s Not Mine” adds a lighter, flirtier edge before the version cuts close out the package. The release lands right in the thick of 2006, when 40/40 was still pushing a clean, radio-ready sound through the dancehall circuit.
