Afro Teckno Riddim – Rebel Liberation Records

Afro Teckno Riddim leans into a lean, soca-friendly drive that keeps the energy moving without getting too crowded, and Rebel Liberation Records gives it a tight seven-track frame in 2014. Burning Faya sets the tone with “Higher Heights, ” while Dan I’s “Dingalayo” and Ijudah’s “Good Time” keep the pace bright and chant-ready. The set moves with a carnival edge rather than a hard dancehall push, so the hooks do a lot of the lifting and the rhythm stays clipped and percussive. Isiah Mentor’s “Mama Africa Body” adds one of the more memorable turns here, but it’s Mili Chab’s “Tek Gal Random (Ship Of Love)” that leaves the sharpest final mark, riding the riddim with the kind of swagger that locks the whole selection in place.
