Rebel Liberation Records leans into a moody, mid-tempo dancehall cut here, the kind of riddim that leaves space for jealousy, back-and-forth romance and a little badmind to creep in around the edges. Situationships pairs the silky hook of Verse Simmonds and Raheem on the remix with a run of voices that each take a different angle on shaky love, from Trigaz’s break-up phone call to Endurance’s survivor talk and Leighton Genius’ no-games stance. Renner, Larry Kingdom and Goddesta add a tougher street tone, while Dutch Be and La Twain keep the vibe moving toward the dance. With nine tracks and ten artists in the mix, it sits neatly in that 2016 wave of dancehall riddims built around relationship tension, but it does it with a cleaner, more polished feel than a lot of the rough-edged session material of the era.
