Yakity Yak Riddim – John John Records

John John Records keeps Yakity Yak tight and punchy here, with a 2008 soca cut that runs only three tracks deep: Elephant Man’s “Big Bad And Bold, ” Lady Saw’s “Stress Free, ” and the bare riddim version. The setup leaves plenty of room for the rhythm itself to do the talking, and it comes across as a fast, jolt-heavy groove with enough carnival energy to suit both artists. Elephant Man leans into the brash side of the tune, while Lady Saw brings a cooler, more clipped confidence to hers. It’s a small but focused release, and the version track closes out the 3-track sequence in clean fashion.
