Gold Medal Riddim moves with a clean, high-energy soca swing and keeps the focus on performance rather than excess. Anson Productions, with Anson Soverall and DJ Nako behind the wheel, lined up five cuts in 2015 and let the voices do the work, with Olatunji’s “Seasonally” opening things on a bright, carnival-ready note before 5Star Akil, Preedy, Sekon Sta, and Shradah each come at the riddim from a slightly different angle. The connection between producer and singer feels especially tight on Olatunji’s cut, where the melody sits neatly on top of the driving pulse, and Sekon Sta’s “Pressure (Gimme That Wine)” pushes the set a little harder. A short run, just five tracks and under 20 minutes, but it leaves a neat little mark.
