Xplicit Christmas Riddim leans into the season with a bright, parang-leaning soca pulse and a cheeky holiday theme that’s more carnival lime than carol service. Rule 9’s “Cut She Black Cake” and Yung Rudd’s “Comin Fuh Christmas” set the tone with playful, food-filled writing, while John Tho, Mark Hardy, Khadz and Stef Kalloo each lean into the Christmas table with tunes about eating, clove, turkey and “Santa Baby. ” The whole thing runs as a seven-track set, with Xplicit Entertainment handling the production and dropping an instrumental version at the end, which gives the riddim a proper showcase. It fits neatly into the early-2010s wave of Trinidad and Tobago holiday soca, when producers were turning Christmas into a seasonal subgenre of its own.
