Virgin Riddim (2010) – Lazeme Music

The Virgin Riddim comes off as bright, cheeky dancehall with a slippery, wine-up pulse, the kind of track bed that leaves room for hooks and attitude rather than trying to muscle the room. Lazeme Music put it out in 2010, and the set quickly finds its footing with Charly Black’s “Hot Gal Graduation” and Anthony B’s “Proud Baby Mother, ” two cuts that give the riddim a nice push from opposite sides of the dancehall spectrum. Jahwayne, working under the Lazeme name, cuts in with “Best Rider, ” which links the producer’s own voice to the project in a way that feels more personal than promotional. Macka Diamond’s “Keep Dem Talking” adds a sharper edge, while the version itself closes the thing out with a tidy, no-frills finish.
