Tron Riddim – Hypeyawdz Records

By the time Hypeyawdz got to Tron Riddim, the label was already leaning into its own hard-edged dancehall identity, and this one keeps that streak moving with a tight six-song set in 2014. Di Great’s instrumental opener sets the tone with a clipped, futuristic bounce, then Dosfire’s “You Want” and Maximus Da Masta’s “Vudu Work” push the energy into sly, party-ready territory. The nicest wrinkle is Miss Gudaz and Zoo Rass pairing up on “Controller, ” which gives the riddim a little extra back-and-forth before Nicomatic’s “Ring Game” and Penti’s “Rave” close it out in quick, no-nonsense fashion. It landed in May 2014, and that timing puts it right in the middle of a run where Hypeyawdz was keeping out compact, club-minded dancehall projects.
