VINTAGE REGGAE VOL 1 – REVOLUTIONARY SOUNDS 2020
Vintage Reggae Vol 1 – Revolutionary Sounds Overview
Reggae music has always brought people together, and this new dub release carries that tradition forward. The project comes from a time when roots reggae was shaping the sound of Jamaica and inspiring listeners worldwide. Selectors, who choose and play tunes at dances, have a big role in keeping these rhythms alive. They know how to pick songs that bring out the deep bass and steady drumbeats that make reggae special. Audrey Hall’s “Angel Of The Morning” brings her smooth voice and gentle style to the mix. Hall is well known for her 1986 hit “One Dance Won’t Do,” but here she shows another side with this soulful track. David Isaacs also joins with “Place In The Sun,” a song that fits his long career in reggae, including his work with the legendary Upsetters band. Dobby Dobson’s “Words” adds a heartfelt touch. Dobson, often called the “Loving Pauper” after his famous song, is respected for his emotional singing. George Nooks brings two songs: “Greatest Love” and “We Are In Love.” Nooks is famous for blending gospel and reggae, and his voice gives these tracks a warm feeling. Hugh Porter’s “Tonights The Night” rounds out the release with classic lovers rock energy. This collection holds the roots reggae sound steady, with each artist adding their own special touch. The project is a reminder of reggae’s lasting power and the skill of its selectors.
