Viagra Riddim – Steely And Clevie

Cut in 2005 by Steely and Clevie, Viagra Riddim comes out of that mid-2000s dancehall moment when producers were still chasing lean, sharply programmed beats that could carry both rude-boy cut and big-voiced melodicism. The riddim keeps a dry, stuttering pulse under a sneering low end, which gives tracks like Elephant Man’s “White Liva” and Mr Vegas’ “Viagra Body” plenty of room to jab and swagger, while Sizzla’s “Mek Anotha Move” brings a more righteous edge to the same framework. Mr Vegas linking with Mr G on “No Informer” adds extra bite, and The Prince’s “Pussyclaat” pushes the set a little further into raw street talk. Eight cuts deep, it’s a compact slice of that era’s dancehall pressure, with Steely and Clevie’s own version locking the whole thing in place.
